Before you start: answer as honestly as possible based on your alcohol use during the past 12 months. The AUDIT does not diagnose alcohol use disorder or determine whether it is safe to stop drinking suddenly.
What counts as one drink? Alcohol strength and serving sizes vary. A “drink” in the AUDIT refers to a standard drink containing roughly 10 grams of pure alcohol. Kenyan bottles, cans, glasses and traditional brews may contain more than one standard drink, so interpret quantity carefully.
Do not attempt unsupported detoxification if severe withdrawal may be possible. Seek urgent medical care for seizures, hallucinations, severe confusion, extreme agitation, repeated vomiting, collapse, slow breathing, suspected poisoning, suicidal risk or inability to remain safe. Call 999 or 112, or go to the nearest hospital. NACADA’s 24-hour helpline is 1192.

Is this a diagnosis? No. The AUDIT identifies alcohol-related risk. A proper assessment also considers withdrawal history, health conditions, medications, pregnancy, other substance use, mental health, safety, functioning and the amount of alcohol in local serving sizes.
Withdrawal safety matters at every score. A total score cannot determine whether you can stop safely. If you drink heavily or regularly, drink in the morning, shake or sweat when alcohol wears off, or have had seizures or hallucinations, seek medical advice before stopping suddenly.

About the instrument: The Alcohol Use Disorders Identification Test (AUDIT) was developed by the World Health Organization as a ten-question screening tool for hazardous and harmful alcohol use and possible dependence. It is a screening instrument, not a diagnosis. This implementation uses the standard 0–40 scoring structure and processes answers locally in the browser.
