Convo Africa started with a powerful idea: to create a space where meaningful conversations spark change. What began as a small initiative focused on local community issues has evolved into a multifaceted social enterprise with a broad reach across Kenya and Africa.

The Challenge of Securing a Location

Finding the right space to launch Convo Magazine posed one of the initial hurdles. The ideal location demanded significant investment, and with limited resources, the team had to stretch their budget and think creatively to realize their vision. Their resilience in overcoming this challenge laid the groundwork for the magazine's growth.

Navigating Financial Waters

Despite their passion for storytelling and community engagement, the team faced a steep learning curve in managing the financial aspects of running a media platform. Budget management, funding initiatives, and sustaining the business presented challenges requiring careful navigation.

Finding a Financial Guide

The turning point arrived when they secured a financial advisor who believed in their mission. This advisor guided them through the complexities of financial management, allowing the team to focus on what they do best — creating impactful content and engaging with their audience. With this support, Convo Magazine's financial health stabilized.

Building a Dedicated Team

Attracting the right team was essential for Convo Magazine's success. Through community connections and word-of-mouth, the founders gradually built a passionate and dedicated group of individuals who shared their vision. Many team members have been with them since the beginning, significantly contributing to the magazine's growing impact.

Today, Convo Magazine is not just a publication — it symbolises resilience, purpose, and the joy of pursuing a dream. The team has built more than a media outlet; they've created a home for their vision and a space where meaningful conversations thrive, helping communities across Africa.

James Wetu

Director, Convo Africa

James Wetu is a creator, social entrepreneur, and visionary leader passionate about building programs that inspire conversations and empower communities. With a career spanning community development and corporate operations, he brings a unique blend of grassroots insight and strategic expertise.

He leads Heartbeats & Horizons, a dynamic platform equipping young professionals with the skills, networks, and mindset to navigate adulthood with purpose. He is also the author of three books, including Seeds in the Dark, and host of Monday Boost with James Wetu.

Dr. Fridah Wachira

Co-Founder & Director, Convo Africa

Dr. Fridah is a trained Medical Officer with a growing specialty interest in neurosurgery, passionate about reimagining healthcare in Africa. She leads Doctor's Bench, Convo Africa's health and wellness programme designed to redefine healthcare through patient advocacy.

She also leads Healing is Possible, a bold mental health initiative offering support, therapy pathways, and reintegration for individuals navigating emotional distress and substance use disorders. Known for her rare combination of strength, pragmatism, and empathy.

She continues to shape a bold new narrative: that healing is possible, and that every person deserves access to compassionate, informed, and transformative care.
