Blessings of Bad Luck
Is it not interesting how we love things going our own way, how we often embrace positivity with a fixed mindset, forgetting that any minute life can turn over a 360 rotation? If you’ve tasted some series of good fortunes all through, it can be quite hard coming into terms with the effects of change, especially if it’s negative.
The psychology behind Nova effect
The nova effect, often termed as the blessings of bad luck, is defined as the process of experiencing a fundamental shift in a perspective one has in life.
The phenomenon is laid down using a common parable that gave birth to this theory. It’s a story of Eric who lost his dog while taking a stroll on the park, the dog got lost after chasing a rabbit. This uneventful occurrence brought a lot of distress upon Eric, who decided to print some posters for his missing dog. After a week or so, a lady named Vanessa brought back Eric’s dog. Eric was so happy; within no time, they fell for each other and became a happy couple.
While it’s natural to desire success and happiness, chasing these goals with desperation can lead to unintended consequences. The Nova Effect reminds us that good luck can also have its downsides.
One day while driving to pick up his girlfriend Vanessa, Eric gets into an accident, he is quickly rushed to the hospital. Due to the nature of his accident, Eric underwent a CT scan. Note this, it was during the scan that the doctors detected a brain tumour. By good luck the tumour was just in its initial stages, this meant treating it was easy. Without the sequences of these uneventful switch such as his dog getting lost and him having an accident, Eric could not have met his dream lady nor could he have known about his tumour early enough.
Truth is shifts do happen even in the tiniest of portions, probably you’re a guru in waking up early; thanks to your alarm you never miss a bell but then one day alas you oversleep thinking you’ve set your timer right, you then wake up thirty minutes late only for you to realize you hit pm rather than am. This is what we call the switch of life, anything can happen at any time.
Tragedy of good luck
People often want to be associated with good luck and all the good things life can provide. Of course, it’s human to crave this, we often think that acquiring success is certainly a gateway to leading a happy life, but again how guaranteed is that? How many rich people do you know who are roaming around sick, exhausted and depressed? This means we can have all the good things and still instead end up attracting great misfortunes in life.
Craving happiness, money, and prosperity isn’t a bad thing, it actually shows determination, but what sets this theory is using desperation to seek it. It’s also imperative to understand these shifts aren’t there to break you, as they majorly happen to give you a deeper perspective about life. Some people cannot relate, since their profound desire for success has clouded their judgment.
A stoic mindset can help you navigate life’s ups and downs with resilience. By focusing on your inner peace and accepting challenges with equanimity.
Stoic mentality
The Stoic mindset is one mindset most people should have. A Stoic mindset is built on disciple and satisfaction. One with a Stoic mentality isn’t easily affected by the highs and lows of life, as they are satisfied with anything life brings them. Don’t misinterpret things, satisfaction does not mean contentment it only stops desperation, however many haven’t harnessed this mindset.
A clear illustration could be set out when one has always desired success, and they instantly get to win the lottery; they become absorbed into the luxury and wealth that they end up losing the meaning of why they even got rich. They look for ways of becoming even more lucky by getting into other toxic money-making schemes such as gambling. Because they were desperate to become richer, their wealth goes down the drain, and they get back to rock bottom. Since they were busy chasing on good luck in all desperation, bad luck comes knocking in double portions as a result of this. Unfortunately, as a result of not being able to acclimatize to the idea they end up looking for shortcuts to wiping away their misery by getting into drugs, alcohol, or worse even suicide. Truth is, if this person had a Stoic approach on how to use his wealth, he couldn’t have got into this uneventful state.
The Nova Effect encourages us to embrace change and view challenges as opportunities for growth.
In conclusion
Remember, bad luck isn’t always bad and good luck isn’t always good. How you manage both is very important. Never forget, a Stoic mindset is what you need to emerge from any luck life throws your way.
