How to Navigate Online Scams: Lessons Learned from Personal Experience

-

If you’ve tried online business, probably earned a penny or two while at it, you’ll realize how compelling it is. With the advancements in technology, online platforms have been on the rise, with more scammers stepping in. This being so, stumbling upon a legit money making business can be a struggle.

The mechanism behind online scams

The need to acquire quick cash has landed most young people in the pits of regret. The corporate world says that for one to acquire returns one must invest, after all it’s about reaping where you’ve sown. This I don’t dispute however let’s do a reality check, those who become scammed In most cases, this same mechanism is used to lure them in. Most online users end up being deceived, they become compelled to chip in some cash, the deal is any money they invest comes back in double portions. Through counterfeit online platforms mostly termed as ‘online business’ they ‘invest’ only to come to the constant realization they’ve been scammed. With desperation, they look for similar money making platforms that unfortunately ends up draining them to the last coin.

The Experience

Speaking with first-hand experience, I’ve fallen victim to online scams. I remember my first experience was around 2020 when Covid-19 struck, at this time I was fresh from high school, super naive with less exposure.

My first investment was around a thousand bob, optimistic as I was, I got into the business thinking it was going to be some bed of roses. Luckily, the job had a karibu bonus for first time users. The amount was not much, but it was quite convincing, so I sojournered into this gig passing a blind eye to all the red flags I saw.

The downside of counterfeit business, be it online or physical, is they barely last.

I won’t lie, I was earning good money, but that depended on whether I referred someone to the gig. Unfortunately, the main means of earning for most online hubs is through referrals. Luckily, I maximized the opportunity as I used my means of approach to lure in potential users.

Realizing the cash was less, I moved to a different online gig, which opened another chapter for new tales. In this gig the technique for earning was different where one had to post for views, the rule was the more views you get the higher chance you get to earn more. Becoming a full subscriber to this meant I had to complete my registration, to gain full entry I had to steep in around 2000 shillings.

The first two weeks were quite rewarding as I received some credible amount of cash, however the downside of counterfeit business, be it online or physical, is they barely last. The online platform was shut barely lasting a month, even more painful, I invested some cash the same week thinking it would double up. I went ahead tried on extra online gigs, some I earned good money while majority I lost. Seeing my money going down the drain was enough motivation for me to do away with the interests associated with most of these platforms.

Why counterfeit online gigs fail

This type of hustle may fail based on certain reasons, firstly it could be attributed to the many reports. This utterly means when people have reported not being satisfied with the platform, the chance of it not being shut down is one to zero. The chance of survival can go for days, if lucky maybe a week or two. With enforcement and consumer protection agencies instilling rapid intervention, they shut down scams more quickly when they come across platforms of this nature.

Human beings never learn, we make mistakes and while at it, we make another.

The sad reality

Apparently cases of people investing money online only for them to fall prey to scams are stories we keep hearing and even more sad is these scammers walking scot-free probably ten times richer. The fact that they are anonymous makes it even more convenient for them to carry their next target of operation.

Remember once bitten twice shy. However, the case, human beings never learn, we make mistakes and while at it, we make another. This is a piece of advice which may appear as a question, once you’ve had an experience as unpleasant as online extortion, why not shift into something different? I’m not saying you should desist completely from online jobs; however the online market being crowded at this point, the best thing might be reaching for meaningful online gigs that capitalizes on one’s skills, jobs like article writing could be a great start; or better yet forex, which might be sophisticated at first, but its fruits are more enjoyable with time.

Conclusion

In conclusion, navigating online scams requires vigilance, education, and proactive measure in similar terms identifying counterfeit platforms also requires discernment. It’s also important to understand common tactics used by scammers, while staying informed about the latest scams.
